Tony Romo was on his way to meet some loved ones before he got pulled over and arrested.
On Thursday, July 23, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, 46, was stopped by authorities while driving in Wisconsin. When asked where he was coming from, Romo answered “the golf course,” and added, “I’m going to meet grandma and grandpa,” per bodycam footage obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, July 28.
The footage also showed the officer asking the retired NFL star to perform field sobriety tests, and Romo repeatedly asked to call his lawyer, a request the deputy denied.

After getting out of the vehicle, Romo is told he is “detained pending an OWI investigation.” The athlete is handcuffed and placed in the back of the cop car as the officer explained she wanted to conduct the field sobriety tests on an “even surface free of debris,” instead of the highway they were on.
Video obtained by the outlet shows the CBS Sports analyst at the police station performing the field sobriety tests. Romo did poorly on the tests, and was then arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

The Wisconsin native was booked into jail at around 9:45 p.m. and released at around 11 p.m., according to FOX 6. He will be back in court on September 21.
As Globe previously reported , it’s unclear whether Romo will face any criminal charges, as in Wisconsin, a first-offense OWI is typically considered a civil offense and carries a small fine.
