Former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton will be an honorary captain for the Aflac Kickoff game on Sept. 5.
The Tigers are set to take on the Baylor Bears in week one on Sept. 5 in Atlanta, Georgia, for the Aflac Kickoff Game. Both teams will have an honorary captain for the game, with the Tigers being represented by Cam Newton and the Bears represented by Robert Griffin III.
Both college football legends are Heisman Trophy winners. Newton recently had his No. 2 jersey number retired last fall during halftime of the Auburn-Georgia game. The former Heisman winner was part of Auburn's historic 2010 season that ended with the Tigers claiming the BCS National Championship against the Oregon Ducks.
It is fitting to have Newton as an honorary captain because transfer quarterback Byrum Brown has drawn comparisons to Newton. Easy to see why, with a big-frame quarterback who is a physical runner and rushed for over 1,000 yards.
A lot of expectations around Brown, especially coming from preseason award watchlists. The senior quarterback has been working with quarterback guru Jordan Palmer this summer to prepare himself for the 2026 season. Week one in Atlanta against a team like Baylor will be a great place for Brown to show off his skills at the next level.
