After six years of playing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Milwaukee Bucks , Bobby Portis will now be playing for the Miami Heat alongside his longtime teammate. This is a huge change for both players, but it seems they could massively improve a team that has needed a frontcourt boost.
Now, the Heat have one of the most promising teams ahead of the 2026-27 season. Giannis steps in as the #1 guy for Erik Spoelstra, but he is not alone because he will be starting alongside Bam Adebayo.
Bobby Portis knows he is part of the league's best frontcourt
Combining Giannis and Bam in the same frontcourt is already dangerous for most opponents. They will struggle scoring against them because these two are arguably the best defenders in the league.
Offensively, they are also elite, with Giannis standing as the #1 option. Adebayo may not be as explosive as him, but he does have an 83-point game under his belt from the 2025-26 season.

They are not alone because they do have Portis coming off the bench. He has become a fantastic backup over the years, and he provides instant offense for the team.
It will be an interesting dynamic because they could all play alongside each other if Spoelstra wants to play big with Giannis playing the small forward position in certain rotations.
"I’m excited for our front line. You go Giannis, top 5 player in the world. You got Bam who has two gold medals, an All-Star, an All-NBA caliber type player. You got me off the bench, 6th man. I don’t think you can name a team with 3 better bigs," Portis said in an interview about him joining the Heat to play with Adebayo and Antetokounmpo .
"I’m super excited to go through the journey with this new team. I think we’re going to do some big things."
Portis will play a pivotal role for Spoelstra as one of the first names off the bench. If he can replicate his productivity as the sixth man in Milwaukee, he could be an effective player for a long time in Miami.
