Joe Burrow Gets Honest About Bengals Training Camp Fight

Several players got riled up in the spirit of competition during the first day of Cincinnati Bengals training camp, and quarterback Joe Burrow seems to be mostly all for it.
During the team's 11-on-11 drills on Wednesday, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and cornerbacks DJ Turner II and Jalen Davis got into a scuffle on the field. After a heated play, Chase ripped off Turner's helmet, then tossed it down the field.
Davis got into it with Chase, and eventually the full team got into a tight group on the field before coaches and teammates eventually settled things down. Burrow shared his thoughts about the incident after practice.
"Those two are two of the best in the league, and they're going to be going at it every day, so whenever those guys need to get excited and get better, go ahead and do it," Burrow told reporters during a media session.

"To an extent," the Bengals QB said when asked if he likes that sort of thing. "When it starts to interrupt practice, not too much, but if you can, you know, maybe punch someone in the face in about, you know, 15 to 20 seconds and then get back lined up, that's probably ideal."
A reporter asked if Burrow intentionally threw two passes against Turner following the scuffle, but he replied, "Guess you'll never know."
Burrow is heading into his seventh season with the Bengals and hoping for a much-improved one over his last campaign. During the 2025-26 season, Burrow ended up getting hurt and missing nine of his team's 17 games. He went 5-3 in the games he played, throwing for 1,809 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Many believe that with Burrow back healthy and on the field, the Bengals should be back amongst playoff contenders in the AFC. Ja'Marr Chase is considered amongst the best receivers in the league, along with Seattle Seahawks' Jaxson Smith-Njigba.
Cincinnati also made improvements to their roster's defense, with a big trade to bring in Dexter Lawrence II from the New York Giants, and then signed him to a deal through 2028.
Additionally, they added Jonathan Allen on a two-year deal and signed Boye Mafe to a three-year, $60 million contract, further bolstering the defense.
That said, an unfortunate injury hit the Bengals during Wednesday's practice as defensive end Shemar Stewart was carted off the field with a left leg injury. As of this writing, there were no updates on the severity of his injury.
The team will have its first preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Paycor Stadium against the Detroit Lions. Their first regular-season game arrives at home on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
