According to Adam Luckett of KSR , assistant general manager Pete Nochta has been tabbed as the program’s interim GM. He accepted the assistant GM job in January before being promoted only seven months later.

Kentucky head coach Will Stein will now get to work with Nochta in tandem as the season is just around the corner.
Stein was hired by Kentucky to be the program’s head coach in December after spending the last three seasons as Oregon’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under head coach Dan Lanning. Prior to that, he was with UTSA for three seasons, first serving as the program’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach before transitioning to the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Kentucky is coming off a tough 2025 season, finishing with a 5-7 record and missing out on a bowl game. It was the final season of the Mark Stoops regime after he served as the Wildcats’ head coach for the previous 13 seasons.
In the Stoops era, the Wildcats won 7+ games seven times and had their best season in 2018 and 2021, finishing 10-3.
Stein will try to get the program back to that level, and it will all start on Sept. 5 against the Youngstown State Penguins. After that, the Wildcats will get their first true test of the Stein era when they host the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 12.
