Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano opened his press conference by reflecting on his deep personal history in the city of Chicago, recalling his early days in 1996 working with the Chicago Bears under Dave Wannstedt and Bob Slowik—a period that shaped his coaching career, family life, and Christian faith.
Drawing a parallel to his professional roots, Schiano made a sweeping declaration about his current program: "I don't think it's any coincidence that the city where I experienced professional, personal and spiritual transformation is where I can announce one of the few people that have been around Rutgers football for 25 years, that I can announce that Rutgers football is experiencing a foundational transformation".
Schiano attributed this momentum to unprecedented vertical alignment at the university, defining it not as a hollow marketing slogan, but as a unified vision shared by board president Amy Towers, university president William Tate, athletic director Keli Zinn, and himself regarding the necessary investments to win in the Big Ten.

This structural alignment, Schiano noted, has finally freed him from the exhausting burden of raising external NIL funds across New Jersey and New York, allowing him to dedicate his energy fully to mentoring players.
Turning his focus to the field, Schiano did not shy away from the team's 5-7 record a year ago, invoking the famous words of Bill Parcells: "You are what your record says you are". To fix those shortcomings, Schiano highlighted a renewed, program-wide obsession with ball security and introduced new defensive coordinator Travis Johansen, whom he charged with elevating defensive takeaways and overall unit chemistry.
Schiano was joined in Chicago by standout player representatives KJ Duff, Kobe Asamoah, and Antwan Raymond, praising them as elite student-athletes who personify the academic and athletic rigor of the Big Ten.
