Barcelona have rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s opening offer for Ferran Torres after the French champions finally submitted their first formal proposal for the forward.
According to Mundo Deportivo , PSG offered a fixed €40 million for the 26-year-old, but Barcelona immediately turned down the bid because it fell short of their valuation.
The rejection does not mean the Ferran Torres transfer is off. In fact, the opposite appears to be true.
The Spain international has already agreed personal terms with PSG and wants to move to Paris, while the French club remain determined to complete the operation.
The issue is now purely financial.

Barcelona had been waiting for PSG to make their first official proposal for Ferran Torres, and that offer finally arrived on Monday.
However, the €40 million fixed fee was not enough to convince the Catalan club.

Barcelona believe Ferran commands a higher price, particularly after his performances for Spain at the World Cup.
The forward has established himself as a valuable attacking option and still has considerable market value, meaning the Blaugrana are not prepared to accept the first offer that arrives.
The situation is also complicated by the fact that Ferran has already reached an agreement with PSG.
The player wants the move and would like his future resolved as quickly as possible, but Barcelona remain in control of the negotiations with the French champions.
Until PSG improve their proposal, the Catalan club have no reason to approve the transfer.
Understandably, it is normal for the first offer in a negotiation to fall below the selling club’s expectations. PSG are aware of Barcelona’s valuation and could now return with an improved bid in an attempt to close the deal.
That is likely to be the next step.

However, Mundo Deportivo’s information makes an important distinction.
Barcelona sources indicate that the €40 million proposal is currently the only formal offer they have received, and that bid has been rejected.
That means the €50 million figure should not yet be treated as an agreed transfer fee.
The expectation at Barcelona is that PSG will increase their offer if they are serious about signing the forward.
The French club have already made their interest clear and have an agreement with Ferran, so there is a strong incentive for them to find a compromise with the Catalan club.
