See the full story · 1 sourcesNot a day goes by without someone on the Los Angeles Rams being asked about Aaron Donald potentially coming out of retirement to play this season. Sean McVay has answered numerous questions about Donald’s plans, and on Tuesday, he struggled to contain his smile.
The Rams coach said he has stayed in contact with Donald, telling reporters that his training is “going really well” but there’s nothing imminent when it comes to a decision.
"I have had conversations with him,” McVay said with a sly smile, attempting to keep his answer short. “We’ve kept in contact. He’s feeling good. His training is going really well. But no new news on the front of like any imminent decision on whether he’s going to play or not."

— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) July 28, 2026 McVay was then asked if Donald has been using the Rams’ facility for his training, to which he responded by cracking a joke about TMZ snapping photos of Donald at the team’s headquarters in Woodland Hills recently.
“He’s got places that he can train at,” McVay said.
Is the Rams’ facility one of those places?
“I’m not sure,” he replied.
“You’re not sure?” the reporter asked.
“I’m not sure. There’s nobody at the Rams’ facility right now so maybe TMZ knows the answer to that,” McVay joked.
Maybe McVay knows something. Maybe he doesn’t. But he sure looks like a coach struggling to contain his excitement about a potential Hall of Famer coming back to team up with Myles Garrett.
