Adam Vinatieri spent his career making unforgettable moments look routine. There was nothing routine about the moment he experienced Friday night.
The legendary New England Patriots kicker officially received his Pro Football Hall of Fame gold jacket during the Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner in Canton, Ohio.
The Patriots shared video of Vinatieri standing onstage as the iconic jacket was placed over his shoulders. Vinatieri adjusted the front before taking in the applause reserved for one of the greatest kickers in NFL history.
It was a simple ceremony carrying decades of meaning. Vinatieri had officially joined football immortality.
Adam Vinatieri Receives Iconic Gold Jacket
The gold jacket is one of the three primary symbols of membership in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The others are the bronze bust unveiled during enshrinement weekend and the Ring of Excellence presented to Hall of Famers later.

More than 100 returning Hall of Famers were expected to welcome the newest class during the traditional “Gauntlet” at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Vinatieri’s official enshrinement ceremony will take place Saturday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon will serve as his presenter.
Before the speech, the bronze bust and permanent place in Canton came the moment Vinatieri could finally wear the jacket that confirmed he belonged among football’s greatest players.
Vinatieri Built Hall Of Fame Career In New England
Vinatieri joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 1996 and remained with the organization for 10 seasons. His defining moment came during New England’s divisional-round victory over the Oakland Raiders following the 2001 season. With snow covering the field, Vinatieri made a seemingly impossible 45-yard field goal to force overtime.
He later converted the winning kick in overtime. Two weeks later, Vinatieri made a 48-yard field goal as time expired to defeat the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. The kick secured the first championship in Patriots history and launched the NFL’s greatest modern dynasty.
Vinatieri delivered another last-second field goal to beat the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. He also helped New England win Super Bowl XXXIX before signing with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006.
He immediately added a fourth championship during his first season in Indianapolis.

Gold Jacket Completes Vinatieri’s Journey
Vinatieri played 24 NFL seasons before retiring in 2021. He finished his career as the league’s all-time leader with 2,673 points and 599 made field goals. Vinatieri also holds the NFL record with 44 consecutive successful field-goal attempts.
He became the only player in league history to score at least 1,000 points for two different franchises. Those numbers made Vinatieri’s Hall of Fame case overwhelming. The moments made him unforgettable.
Patriots fans remember the football disappearing through the Foxborough snow. They remember Tom Brady driving the offense into range before Vinatieri calmly finished two Super Bowl victories.
On Friday, there was no clock ticking down and no championship hanging in the balance.
Vinatieri simply stood onstage and received the gold jacket he had earned long ago.
