After strong summer league, Worcester's Nkrumah ready for NBA shot
After playing for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Summer League, Aaron Nkrumah is home in Worcester, working out, getting ready for Nuggets’ training camp and set to host a youth clinic at South High, his alma mater.
Nkrumah, who was the 2025-26 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year at Tennessee State and stood out at the NBA Combine this spring, went undrafted, but signed an Exhibit-10 Contract with the Nuggets in June .
In three NBA Summer League games, the 6-foot-6 Nkrumah averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds.
“It was a good experience,” Nkrumah said. “I was happy to be around the whole organization and wear an NBA jersey. I definitely wanted to make the most of the opportunity and I was just happy to be there.”
Among the other rookies on Denver’s summer league roster were Trevon Brazile (Arkansas) and Bryce Hopkins (St. John’s), who were both second-round draft picks.
Nkrumah, who was a two-time MASCAC Player of the Year at Worcester State before transferring to Tennessee State, spent one week in Denver before heading to Las Vegas for the Nuggets’ summer league games.
“I didn’t play as much, but with the minutes I did get I produced,” Nkrumah said. “I did good enough for them to want me to come back. I was in awe when I first got there, but when I started playing, I was alright.”
NBA training camp opens in late September. Nkrumah said there is a chance he could be asked to report early.
Depending on how Nkrumah does in camp, he could sign a standard contract, a two-way contract or be assigned to Denver’s G League team.
Nkrumah was a T&G Super Team honoree at South High and notably navigated a path that took him from community college to Division 3 to Division 1 .
Nkrumah graduated from South in 2019, prepped for a year at Marianapolis, attended Quinsigamond CC during the COVID year, and spent a semester at Nichols before transferring to Worcester State .
Nkrumah was a two-year starter at Tennessee State and in 2025-26, he led the team in scoring (17.6 ppg), ranked among the nation’s leaders in steals and led the Tigers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 32 years.
Nkrumah was the last of 44 players invited to the NBA G League Elite Camp , which took place in early May, and, with his standout performance in testing, shooting drills and 5-on-5 scrimmages there, he was one of five players to move on to the NBA Combine.
After that came pre-draft workouts with 13 NBA teams.
While home in Worcester, Nkrumah is lifting weights and doing on-court workouts with Brian Marvie, who was his JV coach at South, and at North High coach Tishaun Jenkins’ gym.
Going into Nuggets’ training camp, Nkrumah has a few objectives.
“Being more all over the place defensively,” Nkrumah said, “flying around, defending and rebounding. Offensively, being able to make shots. As a rookie coming in, you may not have the ball in your hands much, so just being able to make shots when the ball does come in my hands.”
From August 4-6, Nkrumah will host the Aaron Nkrumah Skills Camp at South High’s gym.
Each day’s first session, for kids in grades 4-7, will run from 8-10 a.m. The second session, for kids in grades 7-10, will run from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Marvie, as well as a couple of Nkrumah’s former Worcester State teammates, will be helping out at the camp.
“It’s something I wanted to do for the kids while I’m back home,” Nkrumah said. “I’m pretty sure it’s going to go well. With the buzz going around my name, I’m pretty sure kids are going to want to be around an NBA player.”
