House Of The Dragon (HBO and HBO Max, Sunday, 9 p.m., season three finale) After eight Sunday nights’ worth of fiery twists, shocking betrayals and deadly dragons, House Of The Dragon ’s third season will come to an explosive end with this week’s finale episode, which builds toward the devastating Battle at Tumbleton between the Greens (led by James Norton’s Ormund Hightower) and the Blacks (the Winter Wolves and Rivermen among them). That massacre is split into two events in George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood , so it remains to be seen if the HBO drama remains faithful to the source material or cherry picks the bloodiest bits for one big season-ending brawl. The Game Of Thrones prequel has already been picked up for a fourth season, so at least some characters have to survive, right? Stick around for The A.V. Reacher (Prime Video, Wednesday, season four premiere) Based on Gone Tomorrow, the 13th of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, the latest installment of this Amazon action-crime thriller sees Reacher (Alan Ritchson) drawn into a complex and deadly conspiracy after trying to help a distraught woman on the Philadelphia subway. When that chance encounter goes horribly wrong, the titular vigilante finds himself warring with “ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power,” per the streamer. The first three episodes of the eight-ep season drop on Wednesday; look out for The A.V. Club ’s season review on Tuesday.
My Brilliant Career (Netflix, Thursday, series premiere) Adapted from Miles Franklin’s classic 1901 novel, this six-part Australian drama stars Philippa Northeast as Sybylla Melvyn, a fiercely modern farm girl who dreams of becoming a writer. Those lofty professional ambitions butt up against societal pressures and her family’s insistence that Sybylla settle down and marry, a tension that gets even more complicated when she unexpectedly falls for her hunky young neighbor Harry (Christopher Chung). Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Kate Mulvany round out the historical drama’s cast.
