Over the weekend, we saw the initial reports break that Jamal Musiala might not be ready for Bayern Munich’s DFB-Pokal match vs. VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday.
Now, Bild (via @iMiaSanMia ) has checked in to confirm that Musiala’s status is, indeed, in doubt as the team and Musiala’s doctors are favoring a more conservative approach for his return:
Everything indicates that Jamal Musiala won’t be in the squad against Osnabrück on Wednesday. Musiala, his doctors, and Bayern don’t want to rush anything or force a quick comeback. While they are currently monitoring the player’s condition daily and a final decision is expected on Tuesday before departure, the current situation is that Musiala won’t be available yet for Wednesday’s game.
Obviously, Musiala’s health remains at the forefront of everything, but this does break a bit from the initial reporting, which indicated that doctors favored the star attacker to just play through this condition. With two, on-field collapses, everyone in this scenario wants to make sure that the player is fully ready to go before making his return. A third collapse — especially in his return appearance — would be a disaster optically and raise many questions about the care and advice that Musiala is receiving — fairly or unfairly. Realistically, it could be a slow build-up to Musiala getting back to his regular minutes.
As of now, Musiala will continue to put in work during training and doctors will continue to monitor how he is taking to the new balance of his medication.
