Reports indicate that Jonathan Taylor and the Colts have agreed to a new contract extension. The deal is a two-year, $44 million extension worth up to $47 million, with $39 million guaranteed.

Cashing in again
The extension comes after Taylor continued to establish himself as one of the NFL’s premier running backs. Not long ago, however, the two sides appeared headed for a split. During their initial contract negotiations in 2023, Taylor requested a trade.
Instead, the Colts ultimately signed him to a three-year, $42 million contract, keeping Taylor in Indianapolis. Since then, he has rushed for 3,757 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Last season, Taylor tied a career high with 18 rushing touchdowns. He also enters the 2026 season as the NFL’s active leader in rushing yards per game (90.5), according to Pro Football Reference.

The Colts are expected to lean heavily on Taylor once again as Daniel Jones returns from the season-ending injury that cut short his 2025 campaign. Taylor’s dominance on the ground helped fuel Jones’ career resurgence before the injury.
That combination helped Indianapolis race out to a 7-1 start. Now, the Colts will look to build on that momentum and return to the postseason.
