10 Eagles players who could get cut this summer, including last year’s training camp star

The Eagles will hold their first training camp practice on Wednesday morning, marking the start of a long month for players on the roster bubble.

Here are 10 names who are fighting for roster spots this summer:

Quarterback Andy Dalton

Dalton split reps with Tanner McKee during the spring, but it is unlikely the Eagles would demote McKee from the backup job while he remains on the roster. The Eagles could trade McKee before the season to a team in need of a backup or spot starter, but nothing indicates a trade is likely.

Philadelphia could keep its fifth-round rookie quarterback, Cole Payton , on the roster over Dalton to not expose him to waivers.

Cornerback Kelee Ringo

Ringo has failed at every opportunity to become a starter, but he has salvaged his career by becoming a special teams ace.

But since the Eagles have better depth at cornerback than they did last season, Ringo will now have to compete for a roster spot. Veteran free-agent addition Jonathan Jones can replace Ringo as the No. 4 cornerback, and for the final two spots, Philadelphia may give its other cornerbacks a chance to beat out Ringo. If the Eagles could receive a late-round pick for Ringo, that would be a great move at this point.

Defensive tackle Ty Robinson

Robinson’s career has gotten off to a slow start. As a 2025 fourth-round pick, he has not shown significant upside to become an impactful NFL player. He finished his rookie season last year with just five tackles, and in his second spring with the team, he did not flash in practice.

Robinson trails Byron Young for the fourth defensive tackle spot, so at best he’s the fifth defensive tackle this season. If he doesn’t make any progress, the Eagles may move on from him at the end of training camp.

Wide receiver Darius Cooper

Cooper was the star of training camp last year and made the roster as an undrafted free agent from small-school Tarleton State. A roster spot opened after 2024 sixth-round pick Johnny Wilson suffered a season-ending injury during training camp last summer. Back from injury this spring, Wilson stood out more than Cooper, and now he’s in position to be the team’s fifth wide receiver.

Cooper, who was the Eagles’ fourth wideout by the end of last year, could drop to the sixth spot on the depth chart or even lower. Eagles wide receivers Elijah Moore, Samori Toure and others will be given the chance to knock off Cooper. Beating out Wilson could be difficult, but Cooper needs to show the Eagles that they should keep a sixth wide receiver and that he is the best option for that role.

Fullback/tight end Cameron Latu

Latu proved to be a useful player last year in a limited role. Heading into his second year with the Eagles, the fullback/tight end hybrid has a decent chance of making the roster, but he faces competition at both positions. The Eagles signed former Chiefs fullback Carson Steele this offseason to a reserve-future contract, and if Philadelphia wants a more traditional fullback, Steele might be a better choice than Latu.

To make it as a tight end, Latu has to beat out Johnny Mundt, Grant Calcaterra and Stone Smartt — not an easy task. He doesn’t offer much as a receiving threat, but his blocking skills give him an edge over Calcaterra and Smartt.

Running back Will Shipley

Shipley does not provide much value as a runner, finishing with 131 yards in his first two NFL seasons. He has made his biggest impact as a kickoff returner, with 29 returns for 777 yards last season.

At one point, Eagles backup running back Dameon Pierce was a dynamic kickoff returner. He returned a 98-yard kickoff for a touchdown during his rookie season with the Texans and followed that up with an 80-yard return in his second season. The Eagles signed the veteran running back to a one-year, $1.29 million deal in March, with $250,000 guaranteed. Pierce is considered a long shot heading into camp, but his skills as a returner give him a chance to knock off Shipley.

Tight end Grant Calcaterra

The Eagles brought back Calcaterra for his fifth year, but the contract itself does not guarantee him a roster spot. On a one-year deal, he was given an average salary of $2 million, with $700,000 in guarantees — an easy contract to cut. Calcaterra will have to make major strides as a blocker to earn a fifth season in Philadelphia. The new offense requires its tight ends to be good blockers, and four years of evidence show that Calcaterra’s blocking has been subpar.

Linebacker Smael Mondon Jr.

Mondon is favored to make the team, but he is not a roster lock. He made plays as a rookie during training camp last year, but the 2025 fifth-rounder also struggled with consistency last summer, missing tackles in practice and preseason games. Chance Campbell and Deontae Lawson are the biggest threats to Mondon’s roster security. Campbell has put himself in the roster conversation after having a strong spring.

Offensive tackle Cameron Williams

Williams, who was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, made his debut last season against the Washington Commanders in Week 18. He performed fairly well against NFL starters. He wasn’t perfect by any measure, but the potential he showed was encouraging. The 22-year-old has great size (6-foot-5, 317 pounds) and is a good athlete. Williams is the type of player the Eagles would love to continue developing, but Philadelphia already has Fred Johnson and third-round rookie Markel Bell in backup tackle positions, which potentially leaves Williams on the outside looking in.

Therefore, to make the roster, Williams needs to prove he can also play guard. Showing the versatility to play both positions will help him earn a spot on the roster.
