It is not difficult to understand why, as the Brewers are at the top of the NL Central with an impressive 67-40 record. With this, they should be aggressively looking to upgrade their roster.
Now, with the trade deadline getting closer, they are being linked to one of their former star pitchers.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan , the Brewers and Mets have had conversations about starting pitcher Freddy Peralta.
"The Mets have been talking to the Brewers about Freddy Peralta," Passan said. "I don't know if that's going to happen, but it's the kind of deal that where you see what they would get back from Milwaukee considering what they gave up."
It would certainly make for an entertaining story if the Mets traded Peralta back to the Brewers. Keep in mind, they just acquired him last offseason from Milwaukee. However, with the Mets being a non-playoff team and Peralta being a pending free agent, the possibility should not be ruled out.
The fit between Peralta and the Mets has also simply not been there. The 30-year-old righty has struggled in New York this campaign, as evidenced by his 5-9 record and 4.99 ERA. However, perhaps heading back to Milwaukee could help Peralta turn things back around.
In 211 games over eight seasons as a Brewer, Peralta had a 70-42 record, a 3.74 ERA, and was a two-time All-Star. This included this past season when he had a 17-6 record and a 2.70 ERA in 33 games. With how well he pitched just last season for Milwaukee, it makes sense that they are open to the idea of bringing him back. Let's see if they do just that.
