Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa began baseball activities Friday at Daikin Park, taking another step in his recovery from left ankle surgery.
Correa has been sidelined since May after injuring the peroneus brevis tendon in his left ankle while swinging a bat. He underwent surgery later that month and was placed on the 60-day injured list. The Astros initially announced Correa was expected to miss the remainder of the season.
On Friday, Correa began light baseball activities, including running, catching and stretching. Astros manager Joe Espada declined to speculate on whether Correa could return this season, saying it was too early to look that far ahead. The Astros have two months left in the regular season.

"Just slow down, I know you gotta ask the question," Espada said. "I'm just happy that he's out here moving around, and he actually looks really good."
Espada said Correa will soon begin doing infield work as he continues to progress in his recovery.
"He's gonna start doing some infield work on the side here with Tony (Perezchica)," Espada said. "He is getting better, he's improving."

Correa was not available to comment.
