The Houston Astros are back to .500 (55-55) and have an opportunity to win the AL West.
Despite a tough start to the season, the Astros have ridden Yordan Alvarez's MVP-like season.
Alvarez is no longer an everyday option in left field. Houston's outfielders have provided some of the worst offensive production in the Majors with the slugger at designated hitter.
ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote Thursday that the Astros' biggest trade deadline need is a left-handed hitting outfielder.
A Colorado Rockies hitter enjoying a breakout season at the plate may be Houston's best trade deadline fit.

"How Astros GM Dana Brown chooses to maneuver this deadline is one of the more interesting stories to unfold over the next four days," Passan wrote.
"Though the expectation was that Brown would move multiple bats -- maybe even Peña -- with plans to contend, the Astros might not have the opportunity to do so," he added. "They could finagle a trade with another team still in the race, but even that comes with risk."
Rockies outfielder Jake McCarthy is a logical trade target for Brown's front office.

The 29-year-old is enjoying the best offensive season of his career in his first year in Colorado. He's hitting .293/.334/.491 with 10 home runs and a .825 OPS.
McCarthy also offers plenty of speed, swiping 17 bags in 21 stolen base attempts.
He has a .925 OPS at Coors Field compared to a .721 OPS on the road. Still, McCarthy's road splits would be an improvement over what the Astros have in their outfield.
