Carnell Tate is off to a fast start at Titans training camp

The Tennessee Titans held two training camp practices on Wednesday and Thursday. There’s obviously lots of attention on how rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate is performing. All indications are that Tate is off to an impressive start, showcasing chemistry with franchise quarterback Cam Ward.

Tate caught a practice-high three catches at Wednesday’s session, according to Jim Wyatt’s summary . That included a touchdown from Cam Ward in the red-zone that made social media rounds. Tate added another catch to his camp totals at Thursday’s practice.

It’s arguably been the continuation of what Tate displayed throughout OTAs and minicamps. Remember that at the Titans’ first open practice of the offseason, Tate caught three touchdowns from Ward with reporters in attendance. Wednesday’s touchdown drew similar reactions.

The general sentiment is that the Titans’ defense won Thursday’s practice. Both Ward and backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky were intercepted . The Titans defense had numerous pass breakups and quarterback pressures. The highlight play was when receiver Elic Ayomanor climbed the ladder on cornerback Cor’Dale Flott for a touchdown.

Don’t hold it against Tate that Thursday’s practice performance was quieter than Wednesday’s. The entire offensive operation struggled to produce consistent results. When the offense was generating chunk plays on Wednesday, Tate was clearly being a playmaker.

The Titans believe Tate is capable of being the offense’s No. 1 receiver. He’ll share starting duties with $70 million free agent addition Wan’Dale Robinson. Calvin Ridley, who was a 1,000 yard receiver for the Titans in 2024, is also back after a contract restructure. One of these three wideouts will lead Brian Daboll’s offense in receiving throughout 2026.

The Titans will practice again on Saturday. It’s the first session that’s open to the fanbase. Hopefully Tate and Ward put on a show for the attending fans.
